Round table with representatives of Mykolaiv city

With the support of the Professional Fellows Program alumnus Ihor Kramarenko, a roundtable discussion was organised on 02 December 2024 with the participation of representatives of the city of Mykolaiv and representatives of the city of Honolulu (Hawaii, USA).

This initiative is one of the important projects of cooperation between Ukrainian and US cities that our UA Communities initiative plans to implement.

Representatives from the city of Honolulu (Hawaii, USA) were present:

  • Lauren Matsumoto (Minority Leader of the State House of Representatives)
  • Janie Ward – (Representative of the State House of Representatives)
  • Christopher Schuler – (Professor of Water Studies, University of Hawaii) 
  • Ernie Lau – (Hawaii Water Resources Council)
  • Wayne Tanka (NGO «Sierra Club»)
  • Alex Cornell du Houx (President of the Elected Officials for the Protection of the Earth, Financial Reporting Manager, State Representative).

The city of Mykolaiv was represented by Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych and relevant department heads, who presented the city’s achievements and vision of development. These include the Master Plan, the first international aid monitoring website, and the «Blue Economy» concept.

The parties discussed in detail the areas of potential cooperation, namely the environment, green management and landscaping, and the development of critical infrastructure (water supply, energy).

The mayor of the city, Oleksandr Senkevych, noted that the meeting was really productive. «I am confident that we will learn from the experience of Honolulu in various fields and be able to implement it in Mykolaiv».

We are planning further cooperation!
